New York Fashion Week: Jason Wu

I had planned to post somewhat of an anthology this afternoon of my favourite pieces from all of the shows that have happened thus far in New York, but the moment I began viewing Wu's autumn/winter 2011 collection, knew it required special attention.  It's perfect.  Wu is so quickly entrenching himself as one of my personal favourite designers.  He's just so unbearably gifted in the most delightfully human, down-to-earth way.

There is so much historical inspiration here, without an ounce of imitation.  Chanel's ease of dressing and approach to shaping the body is blended seamlessly with Saint Laurent's chic suiting.  Oscar de la Renta's  silhouettes, and Herrera's hemlines are referenced in gorgeous gowns.  Yet all are completely unique and re-imagined.  I love the cuts.  I love the fabrics and the prints.  I love how chic and elegant and luxurious and sexy it all feels while being so casually refined and simple.  It's amazing the talent that it requires to make simple clothing special.  Effortless but unfaltering in its dynamism.

I would give just about anything to get my hands on this collection.  I feel like I wouldn't need a single other garment for the season.
