A Night at the Oscars: The Gowns

It's Oscar night, and I'm actually watching the show for the first time in years!  Well, technically it's been background noise while I have cleaned the apartment, done some work for a show I'm styling at the end of March, and chatted on the phone.  Still, no award will get me quite as excited as the clothes...

My favourites:

Jennifer Hudson in Versace.  Holy shit wow.  She looks phenomenal.  I feel kind of guilty for liking her so much better when she looks like this, but...umm, it's true.  She looks ridiculously amazing.

 Halle Berry in Marchesa

Hilary Swank in Gucci Premiere.  So beautiful.

 Mina Suvari in Elie Saab

 Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein

 Reese Witherspoon in Armani

My not-so-favourites:

Natalie Portman in Rodarte.  I love her, really.  But this dress is just boring.  I imagined her in something strapless with an emipre waist and layers and layers of chiffon in a bright hue.

Penelope Cruz in L'Wren Scott.  This dress just looks too casual and hugs in all of the wrong places.

Nicole Kidman in Dior.  Boring.  Predictable.

Scarlet Johansson in Dolce and Gabbana.  I'm not a fan of the hue and it's just lacking a certain wow factor.  It's more beautiful from the back, but not beautiful enough to salvage the whole look.

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein.  Not nearly glamorous enough for the Oscars.  There is a way to do minimalist at an event like the Oscars (Gwyneth did it well), but this isn't it.
